Tender Whisperings of the Spirit

I had an amazing opportunity that I felt like sharing. This is President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, the second counselor in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For those of you who may not be aware, he is an ordained apostle of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Yesterday my mom, sister, Ian, Meggie and I were shopping in Tai pan. I was definitely getting my dose of birth control as I was entertaining Meggie by picking up everything she was throwing on the ground, and trying to keep Ian busy at the same time. (I was volunteering to watch the kids, not being forced! Amanda found some really great decorations for her up-coming sell of her house!) I decided to sit with Ian on this huge box, with Meggie in the cart in front of me. All of a sudden, Ian said, "Shelsy, down, I want down". Of course, this is the last thing that I want because then he is free to roam about the store. So, I ignored him the first time. Then it came again, "Shelsy, down, pease?" I was a bit frustrated, and turned around with a somewhat annoyed look on my face, grabbed my nephew, and got him down from the box that we were sitting on. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a man that I thought I recognized. He turned and smiled, I smiled, and suddenly realized that it was Elder Uchtdorf. I cannot believe the feeling that came over me. The Spirit of the Lord was so strong in this Apostle's presence. Our Church is true. I am thankful for the blessing of personal revelation, for at that very moment I knew that I was in the presence of a great man. A man who has chosen to follow Christ and to teach what He once taught when He was here on this Earth. It was witnessed to me that I should follow him, follow Christ, for in their paths will I come to live with my Heavenly Father again. I pray to never forget that tender testimony that I was given in the midst of frustration.

That is a neat story, one I'm sure you'll remember forever! And how nice of you to entertain the kiddos so Mandy could get some quality shopping in! I didn't knwo your mom was down there, for how long? And yay for you and doing hair. Now you just need to open a salon in Burley and give me free hilights and trims the rest of my life!! Doesn't that sound like a dream? When are you guys headed back to MT?

I Googled the Whisperings of the Spirit and there were several hits, yours stood out and I chose to read it. Thank you for bringing the Spirit so strongly to me with the description of your sweet encounter.

I had an amazing encounter with another apostle too once, Elder Jeffrey Holland, who was also a close friend to my best friend's family from years passed (so I've heard many heart warming stories from them about him too.)

Anyway, he came to speak at our stake conference and in the Saturday evening adult session, he asked if anyone one had been brought into the gospel through a primary association. I raised my hand. He pointed at me and said, "Dear sister, please share your testimony!" I was totally stunned and could barely move. In his charming way, he insisted, "Now, now, sister... your hair is in place and you dress is straight; now please stand up and share your testimony!" So I did as he requested, but I was still in shock.

Afterwards, he came to me and placed his hand upon my face, cupping my cheek, he warmly thanked me for my, as he said it, "sincere testimony". I could feel the love of the Savior literly pour from his heart into mine. I nearly melted (into a puddle) with gratitude. Of course I recorded it in my journal, but it took me a day or two to consider washing my cheek, lol.

Thank you for sharing and allowing me to comment about my enchounter and admiration for dear Elder Holland.
